Happy Hump Day everyone! Now I don't know how many people are going to remember, but today is the anniversary of D-Day. It was the our boys landed on the beaches of Omaha and Utah. Before I get to my usual post, I wanted to drop a few quick facts.
On June 6th, 1944, 156,000 Allied troops from the United States, Great Britain, Canada, Free France, and Norway left for Normandy.
D'Day was originally supposed to be on June 5th, but the weather would not cooperate.
Numbers
represent total killed, wounded, missing, or captured:
United
States: 6,603 (1,465 killed)
Great
Britain: 2,700
Canada:
1,074 (359 killed)
Germany:
Estimated between 4,000-9,000
By
June 11th, with the beachheads firmly secured, more than 326,000
troops crossed with more than 100,000 tons of military equipment. Paris was
liberated on August 25th. Germany surrendered on May 8th, 1945.
Want to learn more about D'Day?
I'm not sure if this is exactly happy, but I think its a little more touching.
I absolutely love her quote at the end.
“I
come from a country where there wasn’t anything like [peace and freedom]. And I
know the difference. And veterans are doing it…What I don’t want is people to
forget—our men and women veterans; they’ve given a lot. Why forget?”
Remembering that our freedoms cost millions of courageous souls their lives.
Thanking them from the bottom of my heart.
Never Forget.
Until Next Time!
Lots of Love!!
