Garrett and I met through a mutual friend in the
summer of 2008. He was working with our friend at the St. Louis Science Center.
For our first official date, we went to a Cards/Cubs game. Needless to say, the
Cards won! It was a great first date and everything went from there.
Summer 2009, I continued with school,
Garrett graduated from Saint Louis University the following May. Less than a
month later, Garrett was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the United
States Air Force.
In August 2009, Garrett began medical school at
Saint Louis University. All the time, I continued with school.
In September of 2009, we got our first
fur-child, Achilles. Achilles is a lazy, loving, albeit stinky at times,
Beagle-mix. We have had many thoughts and differing opinions on exactly what he
is mixed with. So far, we do not know for sure.
Summer 2010, Garrett went to Alabama for, you
guessed it, training! It was a little different than basic training seeing
whereas Garrett was already an officer. So it was Commissioned Officer Training
or COT. All the while, I was working on school.
Garrett proposed on January 23rd,
2011! It was beautiful! He took me to his family’s cabin under the guise of
going sledding with the nephews. Then he got me out of the car by telling me
that he had to get his dad’s game camera. I was going to be content to stay in
the car, but then he was like please walk with me. Fine. It’s cold and snowy,
but sure I’ll trudge through the woods to find a game camera. Anyway, we were
walking down by the lake, and I’m looking all over for the camera while thinking
to myself, “Where is this stupid camera!?” I turn around and he’s down on one
knee and he barely gets the words, “Will you marry me?!” out before I shout
“yes!” I then found out that we were not
going sledding or anything, so yeah. It was quite lovely! A week later, we have the church booked for
August 6th, 2011 and so began the whirlwind that was our engagement.
June 2011, Garrett took his boards, turned 25, and I continued to plan our wedding all the
while still working on school. In July, Garrett began Year 3 of medical
school with all the wonderful rotations starting with Internal Medicine and
ending with Surgery.
August 6th, 2011, we were married at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eureka, Missouri. It was beautiful! We continue
to hear about how much fun everyone had at our wedding and that now the
pressure is on for my sister and her bf to have an amazing one as well! ;)
October 2011, I turned 25 and we attended Mizzou’s
100th Homecoming! We had an absolute blast!! I love that Homecoming
began at Mizzou and that we were able to celebrate with friends!
October/November 2011, we got our second fur-child,
Clio. She is a little ball of energy especially since she is a Jack Russell
terrier mix.
December 2011, we went on our honeymoon, after I finished some more with school. We
went to Aruba! Garrett fell in love with the place and wants to go back again
soon! I told him that there were many more places for us to visit first, but we
will go back someday!
Summer 2012, Garrett finished Year 3 of medical
school and began the 4th and final year of medical school.
August 6th, 2012: Garrett and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary! We celebrated the same way our relationship started four years earlier: with a Cardinals game and dinner at Humphrey's. (Sorry about the blurry picture!)
December 2012: I finished nursing school
February 2013: I officially passed my boards and became a Registered Nurse!
We are looking forward to:
May 2013: Garrett becomes a M.D.
June 2013: Lara and Brian's wedding and we begin our adventure in Las Vegas!
There are many things in store for us in the
next year! Stay tuned for that and more!
